This epic one-way drive connects Upper Svaneti with Lentekhi via a little-known 4x4-only route. Pass through alpine ridges, unpaved switchbacks, and isolated hamlets like Tsana. It’s a legendary road among off-roaders, available only in dry seasons, but unforgettable for those who make the crossing. Plan your transferThe route begins in Ushguli and quickly gains elevation as you ascend toward the Latpari or Zagar passes (weather dependent). The road is narrow, stony, and completely off-pavement, winding through meadows, over ridges, and along steep valleys. This is one of the few ways to cross from Svaneti into Lechkhumi without returning to Zugdidi, ideal for loop travelers and those continuing to Kutaisi or Racha.
We use high-clearance 4x4s driven by locals who regularly navigate these roads. The trip is slow and bumpy in parts, but safe and private. The driver will stop for breaks, food, or viewpoints at your request. This is not a race, just a rewarding route few travelers get to take.
This journey typically takes 4 to 5 hours, depending on road and weather conditions. Departures before noon are recommended to avoid fog or rain at the top. Pricing begins from $230 per vehicle (up to 6 passengers). Custom routes and continuation to Kutaisi, Racha, or Telavi can be arranged.

No. The pass is typically only open from late June through October. It depends on snowmelt and landslides. We’ll confirm conditions before booking.

Yes. We can also offer this as a Lentekhi or Tsana to Ushguli ascent. Keep in mind it’s steeper coming up, and weather changes quickly in the afternoons.
