Mud Volcanoes & Desert Geology in Kakheti

This unique trip takes you to one of Georgia’s lesser-known natural wonders: the mud volcano fields of Titrit and Tsqaro. Just beyond the open plains, these geothermal features bubble and hiss from the dry earth, with mineral textures and colors changing by season. Some are dry cones, others active with thick, gurgling mud. Nearby, hot springs create seasonal soak areas. Our private drive allows time to walk between sites, take photos, and enjoy the silence of this open, otherworldly landscape.

Route Overview & Landscape

Departing from your pickup point, we head east into Georgia’s steppe terrain. The route is flat and open, passing grazing lands before reaching the volcanic zone. Expect 2–3 hours of scenic driving, with time to explore both Titrit and Tsqaro fields on foot. In spring and early summer, natural pools can form near Tsqaro for a hot mineral soak.

Terrain & Comfort

The volcano zones are reached by flat dirt roads, no hiking required, though light walking over cracked soil and mounds is part of the fun. The area can get windy or sunny, so bring layers, water, and sturdy shoes. Our vehicle will stay nearby for rest breaks.

Timing & Price

The tour typically lasts 5–6 hours. Ideal departure times are mid-morning for maximum light or later if combining with sunset return views. Base rate is $160 per vehicle (up to 6 passengers). Custom durations or stops, like picnic or additional springs, are available upon request.

Georgia’s Natural Wonders, Hidden in Plain Sight

Few visitors know that Georgia has bubbling volcanoes and warm mineral basins out in its eastern lowlands. This trip is ideal for nature fans, photographers, and families who want something offbeat, but not too strenuous. Let us take care of the road and routing, you just enjoy the show.
